Cadenza welcomes our latest young soloist
Always keen to promote and encourage new talent, we are delighted to introduce the up-and-coming young soprano, Isla MacEwan, as soloist in our Cadenza at Christmas 2016 concert.
Isla is an Edinburgh girl who began singing with the National Youth Choirs of Scotland. She attended the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Junior Department for the final three years of her secondary education studying singing and classical guitar. While there, she became the Regional Winner of Rotary Young Musician of the Year for both classical guitar and singing. She also won the Oratorio Prize at the Edinburgh Music Festival and was highly commended in the Alex Elrick Memorial Competition.
She is now in her final year at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, where she studies with Sarah Rhodes. As well as singing in the RNCM and Dorset Opera choruses, she is accumulating an impressive list of solo operatic appearances, including the lead role with Leeds Youth Opera in January, and has appeared as soloist in oratorio works by Handel, Fauré, Purcell, Elgar and Dvořák this year alone.
A regular chamber music performer, Isla has performed a world première in Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall with her ensemble, as well as taking part in a chamber music masterclass with Alastair Hume from The King’s Singers. This year Isla has formed a Baroque Trio focussing on rediscovering unknown Baroque music.
She is currently rehearsing for her post-graduate Masters auditions in London.
